KAILASH MANSAROVAR YATRA CANCELLED



The government announced on 1st August 2013 that the Kailash Mansarovar  Yatra will not be continued this year due to destruction of roads, bridges and track. The statement by the Ministry of External Affairs came in the wake of heavy rains and flash flood which hit Uttarakhand in June.

The disaster of June has led to hunderds of people losing their life and thousand missing. In a statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs, the reason of cancellation for the remaining batches of Kailash Mansarovar  Yatra are damages on the Yatra route as well as safety and security of pilgrims.
The yatra which was supposed to take place from June 9 to September 9, compromising of 18 batches of 60 pilgrims each, involves trekking upto 20,000 feet under unfavourable conditions. Earlier batches 2 to 10 and 11 to 14 were cancelled following the disaster which hit Uttarakhand. And now batches 15 to 18 have also been cancelled.

Last year saw 774 pilgrims undertaking the Yatra while this year only one batch was able to complete the Yatra. The terror of rains in Uttarakhand has not stopped yet.  Four members of a family and five others were feared dead. SDM of Almora Ajay Arora is missing after being swept away in Mandakini river. The rain continues to terrorise people of Uttarakhand. Several NGOs like Goonj and Sulabh as well as many other organisations and individuals have come forward to help the affected people.


We pray to our respective gods for the speedy recovery of Uttarakhand and rehabitilation of the affected people.
