Located in the cantonment area of Dehradun,
Uttarakhand, Rashtriya Indian Military College or RIMC was established in 1922 by Prince Of Wales Edward VIII.
The motto of the college is Bal
Vivek, i.e. strength and
conscience. RIMC is a boy only
college and offers 250 students education
from class 5 to 8.
RIMC is the foundation stone for most of the military colleges in India
Including National Defense Academy,
Indian Naval Academy and also the Indian Armed Forces. Several high ranking officers of India and
Pakistan has been alumni of RIMC. The college was established during the
British period to prepare few bright Indian boys for the military training
Academy and then commissioned officers in the army.
The college is spread over 130
acres and enrolls 250 cadets.
The front portion of the administrative block proudly displays a jet aircraft
gifted to RIMC by Air Chief Marshall
N.C.Suri. The entrance to the college is managed by entrance exams held twice in a year.
The college follows CBSE pattern.
Students are actively involved in all sports and other activities.
The alumni of the college include Major
Somnath Shrama who was the first recipient of Ashok Chakra. Field Marshal Thimayya was also
educacted from RIMC. Apart from studies and sports, the college focusses on the military style training of the cadets
studying there.
This is one of the very prestigious
schools of the country. And the boys aiming for commisioned officer rank
keep RIMC on top of their
favourites' list.
