Actor Amitabh Bachchan has lent his voice in a documentary to laud the bravery of the security personnel who undertook one of the most daunting rescue operations in Uttarakhand hit by heavy rains and floods.
Bachchan describes the courageous efforts of the troops of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), NDRF, IAF and army, who worked shoulder-to-shoulder in the rain-ravaged state, in a 24-minute documentary which will be unveiled later this week here.
Bachchan describes the courageous efforts of the troops of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), NDRF, IAF and army, who worked shoulder-to-shoulder in the rain-ravaged state, in a 24-minute documentary which will be unveiled later this week here.
The documentary, called 'Himveer', has been prepared by ITBP and will be released by Union Minister of State for Home R P N Singh on August 30.
Bachchan, according to sources, promptly agreed to the voiceover after ITBP approached him.
"He was very forthcoming to lend his support for the purpose. The actor will describe the role and challenges the force experienced during the recent incidents in Uttarakhand where it also lost 15 of its troops in an air crash," a senior official said.
The short film chronicles the rescue images captured in the difficult valleys and rivers of the state by these securitymen who are primarily stationed in the state to guard the Sino-Indian frontier and also as the 'first responders' in case of disasters in these Himalayan ranges.
This is why ITBP personnel are called 'Himveers' (braves of the Himalayas).
The documentary also depicts the training ITBP personnel undergo to equip themselves with the skills needed to perform their duties in the mountains which are very often susceptible to bad weather, landslides and flash floods.
Over 500 ITBP personnel, along with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indian Air Force, Army and state police agencies ran a coordinated effort for about a month to rescue thousands of people who were either stranded in the Garhwal ranges of the state.
